Going Green by Buying Eco-Friendly Consumable Products
The smallest, yet the most significant, steps anyone could take to go green is to replace some of the consumable products that he/she is using right now on a daily basis with their green counterparts.
Let's break down these consumable products:
1. Paper Products
Did you know that paper is the largest component of solid waste in the U.S. and fills up more than 40% of the landfills? However, last year, 50% of the paper waste was recovered for recycling. To significantly help the environment, buy paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, napkins, and printer/copy paper) made from recycled paper!
2. Cleaning Supplies
Buy cleaning supplies that use natural substances as their active ingredients instead of toxic chemicals. Natural cleaning products are just as effective as cleaners, but they are safer to humans and pets and are less damaging to the environment.
3. Plastic Products
Less than 3% of all plastic products get recycled. There are, however, eco-friendly plastic products, so you can enjoy the convenience of plastic trash bags, plastic wrap, sandwich bags, plastic storage bags, freezer bags, and more that are made from recycled and biodegradable material.
4. Water Conservation
Water conservation is at the core of a green lifestyle. Most of the water we use is in the bathroom. There are several products that can help you reduce the water you use on a daily basis.
For example, we recommend using a toilet tank bank (which reduces every toilet flush by 1 gallon) and a low-flow shower head, which can signficantly reduce the amount of water that is wasted in every shower you take!
5. Lighting
Using a compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) makes perfect sense! Compared to regular incandescent lamps of the same wattage, CFLs last much much longer and they use a lot less energy! Using CFL makes perfect economic and environment sense!
